26 March 2024The profession of paramedic is one of the most responsible and also the most difficult in the world. So it’s not surprising that it lived to see its own holiday, and since 2006, it has been celebrated in our country as Emergency Medical Service Day, which falls on October 13.
There are interesting stories behind the establishment of this holiday, which are worth bringing to light. At the same time, we encourage you to especially remember then the rescuers who save the health and lives of others on a daily basis. Wishes on the occasion of Emergency Medical Service Day and even small gifts will be a nice expression of this remembrance.
How did the emergency medical services holiday come about?
For a very long time there was no holiday dedicated to paramedics in the Polish consciousness, and since last year we have as many as two such dates. The first is the already mentioned October 13, and the second is September 8.
Why the discrepancies? Both dates undeniably refer to the profession, but they have different origins and emphasize different aspects of the profession .
- Emergency Medical Services Day (October 13) – the holiday was established under the Law on State Emergency Medical Services of September 8, 2006, and the first official celebration took place later that year. The holiday highlights the importance of the profession in the health care system.
- Medical Rescuer’s Day (September 8) – this holiday was established by the Polish Parliament with the Law of December 1, 2022. The purpose of establishing the holiday was to honor the work and contribution of paramedics to the health care system and to emphasize their importance to society. It is on this day that awards are presented – the Cross of Merit “BONUM PRO ALIIS” to outstanding paramedics.
Celebration of emergency medical services day
Emergency Medical Services Day celebrations in Poland are varied and are designed to honor the work of paramedics. They range from nationwide galas to more local events, which can vary from region to region.
Often the official part of such events begins with a Mass for the intention of employees of the National Emergency Medical Service. This is followed by various ceremonies, not infrequently involving the presentation of the Blessed Gerard awards for outstanding achievements. Some venues may also host demonstrations of rescue equipment or simulations of rescue operations to educate and promote safety. The whole event is usually crowned with performances by musical or dance groups.
There is no denying that an important task of such celebrations is to highlight the role and importance of paramedics in the health care system and to draw attention to the difficulties and challenges they face in their work every day. It is worth remembering this on a daily basis and on the occasion of the holiday, to wish the paramedic well.
Wishes for Emergency Medical Services Day
On the occasion of Emergency Medical Services Day, numerous institutions and organizations publish wishes for healthcare professionals. However, it is worth giving the day a more personal touch, especially if you have someone in your circle who is in this difficult profession.
And what should one wish for paramedics? It’s certainly a very individual question, but it’s a good idea to honor the daily dedication and effort put into saving the health and lives of others .
So let these be thanks for your efforts, but also wishes focusing on enjoying your work. Because although it is a very difficult profession, it gives a sense of a duty well done.
